Mt. Norquay, Via Ferrata summit
Mt. Norquay’s brand new summer activity is here. Italian for ‘Iron Path’, the Via Ferrata is cable assisted hiking/rock climbing that takes you to the cliffs above the ski area. No experience necessary.
Here are a few reasons why you should try it.
- It’s easier than you think – Don’t let the idea of rock climbing put you off, the Via Ferrata is specially designed for everyone to enjoy it. Harnessed into a fixed anchoring system of cables, ladders and a suspension bridge, there are two routes depending on your ability and ambition! The shorter route takes approximately 2hrs, and the longer route around 4hrs return trip.
- It’s a group or family activity – Really, it is! The Via Ferrata welcomes kids from 10-12 (depending on a minimum weight of 40kg/88lbs) meaning you can enjoy the experience as a family. Or try it as a group of friends, with up to 8 people in each time slot.
For those who prefer it as a spectator sport can watch the activities from the historic Cliff House. Take the chairlift to the top of Mt. Norquay for the best views over Banff from the viewing platform. Afterward you can stop in at the historic Cliff House for a drink and a bite to eat while your family or friends explore the cliffs above. - It’s awesome. Just look at it.
