It was a powder day today at all three SkiBig3 resorts with new snow totalling 27cm (11″) at Lake Louise Ski Resort, 13cm (5.5″) at Banff Sunshine, and untouched terrain opening at Mt. Norquay’s Mystic Chair, all in the last 24 hours.
First day of Lake Louise World Cup cancelled due to overnight snowfall
A Storm Warning in effect for the Banff area brought 16cm (6.5″) overnight to Lake Louise Ski Resort – so much snow that the first day of races at the highly-anticipated Lake Louise Audi FIS Ski World Cup had to be cancelled due to overnight snowfall.
While fans and racers were disappointed by today’s cancellation of the first Men’s Downhill event, resort guests and powder hounds were ecstatic at the incredible early season conditions, getting to ski and ride some of the best snow in the world this time of year.
Now, in the wake of an unexpected visit by Old Man Winter, the Lake Louise Audi FIS Ski World Cup team is working hard to get the racing course ready for the second day of Men’s Downhill races on Saturday and Men’s super-G event on Sunday.

Incredible conditions in Banff and Lake Louise
At Lake Louise Ski Resort, all lifts are now open and conditions are excellent resort-wide. At Banff Sunshine, 9 of 11 lifts are already spinning and 73 runs are open thanks to a snow base more than one metre deep.

Mystic Chair now open at Mt. Norquay
At Mt. Norquay, 4 of 6 lifts are now open – the most recent of which being Mystic Chair which opened on Friday, Nov. 26. A lift opening that offered completely untouched, perfect powder turns to those skiers and riders lucky enough to slide into first chair.
With another weather system moving in on Saturday night bringing more snow, up to 25cm, through Sunday morning – the best snow is happening in Banff and Lake Louise.
