SKI Magazine 2023 Resort Guide Results
The results are in. SKI Magazine Readers have voted Banff Sunshine and Lake Louise Ski Resort among the Top 30 Ski Resorts in Western North America for 2023.
The annual SKI Magazine Resort Guide is regarded within the North American ski community as a definitive guide of where to ski each winter. The results are based on the publications Reader Resort Survey, which goes out to their loyal list of up to 125 000 respondents. During the survey, respondents are asked to rank each resort based on 20 criteria including skier-centric qualities like snow, grooming and challenge to lighter resort amenities like après, lodging, and charm.
Despite misconceptions, editors have no say in the final results and ski resorts cannot buy their way in. The annual SKI Magazine Resort Guide is a 100% reflection of public opinion, a true ranking of which resorts skiers like best.
Banff Sunshine ranks #4
This year, Banff Sunshine blew away the competition, ranking #4 in the Top 30 Resorts of the West. Placing above Whistler Blackcomb, Banff Sunshine is only one of four Canadian ski resorts named in the Top 50 Ski Resorts in North America. Virtually zero lift lines, a communal and intimate vibe, and challenging terrain made SKI Readers choose this Canadian resort over other American ski areas.
“Readers love Sunshine for everything its not: It’s not a mega resort, it doesn’t feel corporate, and it’s hardly glitzy. Just great skiing in good company.”
Lake Louise Ski Resort ranks #16
Meanwhile, Lake Louise Ski Resort, with its breathtaking scenery, friendly vibe, and noticeable capital improvements (including new lifts, like Juniper Express Chair) ranked #16 – well above Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, Vail, and Big Sky Resort. Since opening in 2020, Lake Louise’s “West Bowl” terrain expansion has elevated this already exceptional Canadian Rockies resort to world-class status.
“Lake Louise is one of the most beautiful ski resorts on the continent and rivals the Alps in its glorious alpine views.”
All Canadian travel restrictions lifted
As of October 1, 2022, all Canadian COVID-19 restrictions have lifted, meaning this winter it’s easier than ever to book a ski trip to the Canadian Rockies. Border requirements including proof of vaccination, use of the ArriveCAN App, and any testing and quarantine/isolation requirements have ended for all travellers entering Canada whether by land, air or sea.
